Commencement Ceremony Held

Hilliard Adopt-a-House and Habitat Mid-Ohio recently held a Commencement Ceremony for their newly announced homeowner. While they had been working on the house for several months, the homeowner decision provided a great way to celebrate! The photo above shows the future homeowner Helen (holding her daughter) as well as staff from Habitat and volunteers, with some our own St Brendan parishioners. These ministries continue to seek volunteers for Wednesdays and Saturdays for the next few months. To help out, contact Bonnie Boeshart Roberts at 614-582-4126 or stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com

Hilliard Adopt-A-House

332 Hosack Street – Home Completed

In the fall of 2021 Hilliard Adopt-A-House submitted an application to Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio to solely sponsor a faith partnership build of a new home. In December 2021 we were tentatively assigned a 4-bedroom “Rachel” house at 332 Hosack Street. That assignment was confirmed in February 2022. We began work on site mid-May.

The home was dedicated on Saturday, January 21, 2023

Painting and door installation this week!

Yesterday we wiped down the walls, vacuumed the floors, electrical boxes, around windows and the duct  work, primed all walls, constructed and installed steps from the garage to the laundry room, and wrapped the half height porch posts. It was a shortened day, because the primer had not dried sufficiently to start with the paint.
On Wednesday and Saturday this week we plan to continue with the interior painting, trim the porch posts, install cabinets, lay luan, begin painting trim work and hang interior doors, depending upon the experience and number of our volunteers for each day.
Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.
Thanks for your help!

Porch construction and more on tap for this week

Yesterday (Saturday) we raised two gable house trusses, raised the 25 trusses between them and put temporary bracing in place. See  http://www.hilliardhabitat.org/Fair for some photos from the day.
We plan to work on Wednesday and Saturday again this week. Plans      include porch construction, sub-fascia, garage preparation for      truss installation, and install blue insulation board. All      volunteers of varying skill levels are welcome!!!
Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Thank you!

Truss work and Insulation

Yesterday we dug the remaining porch holes, completed caulking the exterior OSB and wall baseplates, did some work on the trusses, completed deadwood in the kitchen, and cut the rake legs for the garage gable. See http://www.hilliardhabitat.org/Fair for some photos from the day
This week we plan to continue truss work, start attaching insulation board to the house, and perhaps set concrete in the porch post holes.

Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Thank you!

We continue to work on the garage

Today we corrected some errors,  finished the cap plates on the house, built, raised and sheathed the garage walls and began cap plates on the garage walls. Seehttp://www.hilliardhabitat.org/Fair/ for some photos from the day.

Next week we plan to finish nailing the OSB on the garage walls, finish the garage wall cap plates, re-string the walls to see where additional bracing may be needed, add bracing to the garage walls, begin work on dead wood in the house, mark cap plates for truss placement, caulk OSB seams, dig holes for porch posts, begin DOW board installation and begin setting trusses (all depending upon the availability of volunteers).

Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Thank you!

Walls are Going Up This Week

As of this past Saturday, the floorboards are in place and sealed and the walls are starting to go up!

At this time the forecast is calling for cloudy skies on Wednesday with a temperature of 80’s degrees.  We plan to continue putting up walls.

Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Successful Week!

This week we had a successful week working on the house!  On Saturday we were able to complete the installation of the floor trusses, the access framing for the crawl space, the end blocking, and the rim boards. Linworth UMC provided an excellent lunch for the 8 volunteersthat enjoyed the cool fall weather.

Weather permitting, we hopefully we will install the floor decking Wednesday and seal it. The walls won’t be far behind.

Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Bonnie can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.

Floor Trusses and the Deck

Saturday, we finished installing the crawl space drainage pipe, leveled out the additional gravel, and installed sill plates on the house foundation.

Our next steps involve caulking sill plate seams, set the center beam (lots of muscle will be needed for this!), layout the floor trusses and lay the deck.

The weather forecast of Wednesday and Saturday this week look promising so far, with a cloud cover both days and temperatures dropping through the week.  Please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning if you can work on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning if you can work on Saturday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch if working on Wednesday.  Lunch will be provided on Saturday.
