Reminder: New project beginning this week!

Don’t forget to let Bonnie know if you can work this Wednesday!

Our plan is to work on Wednesday and Saturday this week. The Wednesday work includes some tar work on the concrete blocks, wear clothes that you don’t mind soiled with tar!  Other work on Wednesday will be preparation for setting floor trusses on Saturday.

Bonnie can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.  Please let her know by today if you can work Wednesday.  Don’t forget to bring your own lunch!

New project!

Our project at 136 Fair Avenue in Delaware, Ohio, is scheduled to start this Saturday, September 8!  If possible, please bring your own work gloves, safety glasses, tool belt, a hammer, measuring tape, etc.  Otherwise, they will be provided.
If you can help us on Saturday, please let Bonnie know by Thursday morning.   She can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.  Lunch will be provided for volunteers.
Thanks and God bless!

We’re finishing our home repair project this week and starting a new build on September 8!

This past Saturday, we did some repairs, finished second coats of paint on the south side of the house, all eaves, front steps, doors, and dormer sides, finished first coat of paint on dormer windows, installed light fixtures, and completed other miscellaneous tasks.  See photos from this weekend here.

On Wednesday we hope to finish our work on Rosslyn Avenue. We need to put a second coat of paint on the dormer windows, paint the front concrete foundation wall, re-hang the house numbers, do some touch-up paint in a number of areas, hang the window shutters, and do a small amount of landscaping on the front.

If you can join us on Wednesday, please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning. She can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.  Please bring your own lunch.

Also, mark your calendars for Saturday, September 8th.  We will begin building a new home at 136 Fair Avenue in Delaware, OH.  We are excited to be joining Delaware Habitat for Humanity to build a home for the Sepelak family!  Stay tuned to Flocknotes and the St. Brendan website for details as they become available.

Paint scraping, repairs, and painting scheduled for this week

This past Saturday, we loaded the Habitat truck with our concrete and stone debris, did some cleaning, reinforced the front steps, laid the remaining stepping stones, installed a mounting block for the front steps light, repaired the mullion on the storm windows above the driveway, filled in missing corner trim pieces where the porch and trellis had attached to the house, and continued caulking the wood siding.  See here for recent photos.

We will work again on Wednesday and Saturday this week. We would like to finish the paint scraping, repair the eave on the west side of the house, complete caulking the wood siding, windows and doors, and begin painting! More and more neighbors are stopping by to thank us for what we are doing to the property—wait until they see the house with some fresh paint!

If you can join us on Wednesday, please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning. If you can join us on Saturday, please let Bonnie know Thursday morning. She can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.  Please bring your own lunch on either work day.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Can you help this week?

There is still plenty of work to do on Rosslyn Avenue on Wednesday and Saturday this week. We can especially use volunteers comfortable on extension ladders and in safety harnesses on roofs.

If you can join us on Wednesday, please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning. If you can join us on Saturday, please let Bonnie know Thursday morning. She can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.  Please bring your own lunch on either work day.

Our Critical Home Repair Project Continues This Week!

Despite some rain Saturday, we were able to get a great start on our Critical Home Repair project on Rosslyn Avenue. We removed what remained of the front porch deck and trellis, removed a large number of overgrown bushes, cut down several trees, broke up an old set of concrete steps and scraped loose and cracked paint off the wood siding, soffits and fascia. See http://www.hilliardhabitat.org/Rosslyn/ for some photos from the day.
We will continue the project this week on Wednesday and Saturday. On Wednesday we will continue to scrap loose and cracked paint off the wood siding, soffits and fascia, begin caulking the areas where we have finished scraping, and address a few minor repair issues with fascia and siding. On Saturday we will build a new set of steps, remove another tree and perhaps some bushes, continue with minor repairs and caulking, and, hopefully, begin painting.
If you can join us on Wednesday, please let Bonnie know by Tuesday morning. If you can join us on Saturday, please let Bonnie know Thursday morning. She can be reached at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com.  Please bring your own lunch on either work day and should wear work clothes on which you don’t mind getting a little paint.

Thanks in advance for your help!

New Home Repair Project

We’re starting our home repair project this Saturday!
On Saturday July 21st, 8:30AM, we are to begin our Critical Home Repair project with Habitat MidOhio. The address is 406 Rosslyn Avenue, Columbus, Ohio.  We will begin with the careful demolition of the front deck. After that we will begin the digging for three new footers for the deck. It will be a relatively small work area, but when it gets to digging, we will probably be trading off spots frequently!

Please email Bonnie at stbrendanhabitat@gmail.com by Wednesday at noon if you can join us on Saturday.  Lunch will not be provided during this repair project.  Please bring your own lunch.   We will provide water and Gatorade for the day.

We look forward to seeing you!
