Joe Dalton is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his wife moved to a college town and opened its first pregnancy resource center — just in time to help a young woman who was being pressured to have an abortion. The Knights of Columbus is on the front lines in the battle over abortion, having recently donated their 1500th ultrasound to a pregnancy center in need. Learn more of the Daltons’ amazing story in this clip from our “Everyday Heroes” series.

OUR COUNCIL

Please download this pdf for upcoming events. Sign into ParishStaq here and request to join the Knights of Columbus to view our online calendar and to receive email notifications from the St Brendan KofC council.

We meet the third Wednesday of each month in Wellnitz Hall, Room 1 at 7 PM for food and then fellowship at 7:45 PM.

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is not an invitation to do something. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is an invitation “To Be Someone” – a Catholic man who lives his life according to the Knight principles of “Charity, Unity and Fraternity.”

St Brendan Knights of Columbus Council 11208
4475 Dublin Road
Hilliard, OH  43026

  • Membership Requirements:

Since 1882, membership in the Knights of Columbus has been open to men 18 years of age or older who are practicing Catholics in union with the Holy See. Since that time, the Knights of Columbus has understood “practicing catholic” to mean a Catholic who accepts the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the Catholic Church, and is in good standing in the Catholic Church.

  • Council Meetings:

Council Meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of each month in Wellnitz Hall #1. We begin our gathering at 7PM with a light meal and refreshments and meeting begins at 7:20 PM. Officers’ Planning Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month in the Carter Center at 7PM. All council members are welcome to attend.

  • Membership Dues:

All new members will receive a complimentary 1-year “Free” membership. Council membership dues are $40 per year.  An optional donation of an additional $5 for “Give Me Five” will go to support programs for individuals with Developmental Disabilities.

  • The Power of prayer is unspeakable. It is our Lifeline to God.

Pray often for the men of our St Brendan Knights of Columbus Council that we will always be empowered to live our Catholic faith at home, in our parish and in our communities according to the vision of our founder, Father Michael McGivney. The following prayer is recited at the conclusion of every Council meeting.  https://www.fathermcgivney.org/assets/canonization.pdf

Who we are

We are Catholic Men striving to strengthen our families and communities in faith, to strengthen family bonds, to protect those who can’t protect themselves and to serve those who need help – whether they are next door or halfway around the world. We do it to be better Husbands, Fathers, Sons, Neighbors and Catholics. We put our faith into action – that’s who we are.

Into the Breach

This video series produced by the Knights of Columbus seeks to answer the question of what it means to be a man and how to live as a man in today’s world.  It is inspired by the Apostolic Exhortation for Catholic men written by Bishop Thomas Olmsted of the Diocese of Phoenix.

Into the Breach contends that men are made for greatness and the true expression of that greatness is to be heroically virtuous – and that Catholic masculinity means to have character marked by goodness and truth, strength and courage, in imitation of Christ

The 12 episodes titled: Masculinity, Brotherhood, Leadership, Fatherhood, Family, Life, Prayer, Suffering, Sacramental Life, Spiritual Warfare, Evangelization, and the Cornerstone can be found at www.kofc.org/intothebreach Each episode is approximately 12 minutes.

Faith Programs

Our goal is to strengthen the men of St Brendan and their families in the Catholic faith.  Formation in our faith goes beyond mere facts or religious practice to an authentic connection with a loving God and his son Jesus Christ.

  • Men’s Annual Retreat

The St. Brendan Knights of Columbus sponsor an annual weekend retreat in May at the Spiritual Center of Maria Stein in Maria Stein, Ohio. The retreat is open to all men of the parish whether a member of the Knights or not. The Retreat is led by a religious spiritual director, usually a priest.

  • Faith Sharing Study

The St. Brendan’s Men’s Ministry offers group Faith sharing programs throughout the year, open to all men of the parish. Smaller table discussion study group meets during an early morning weekday and a larger Saturday morning group. While not a Knights of Columbus sponsored program, members of the Knights frequently volunteer to serve as group discussion leaders.

  • Rosary

We encourage devotion to our Blessed Mother, the patroness of our Order. The Knights of Columbus lead the recitation of the rosary immediately following the Saturday morning 8:00 a.m.    All families with their children are encouraged to join us.  Each year the Knights also provide rosaries to RCIA candidates.

  • Support for Seminarians (SOS)

Supporting our seminarians both with prayers and financially in their priestly formation process is important for the success of the seminarians and future of our Catholic Church. The Knights do periodic collections for the benefit of our Seminarians under the Support our Seminarians (SOS) program.

  • Christmas Cards for Seminarians

Council members send out religious themed Christmas cards, along with gift cards to all seminarians in the Diocese.

  • Pilgrim Icon Program

Every few years, the Knights of Columbus selects an icon of a saint whose patronage is particularly inspiring to Knights and their communities. These icons travel from council to council and serve as the centerpieces for prayer services in parishes. An icon of St Joseph will be coming to St Brendan during Lent of 2023 for a prayer service.

  • Serving the Universal Church

While many Council projects serve the needs of our local communities, as a world-wide organization, we stand ready to serve Jesus Christ in the needs of the poorest of the poor anywhere in the world. The St Brendan Knights of Columbus conducted the Shoes 4 St Louis, as a 2022 Lenten almsgiving project for the benefit of St Louis de Montfort parish in Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere and among the second or third poorest in the world. Through the generous support of our Members, the Parish community and outside donors, 440 pairs of shoes and $5,800 in cash donations were collected

Family Programs

Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael McGivney’s vision was to strengthen family bonds in his parish and the Knights of Columbus. The St Brendan Knights are committed to designing programs with the goal of making his vision a reality.

  • Family Movie Nights

The St. Brendan Knights sponsor a free parish movie series of religious themed movies, to help reinforce traditional Christian values. Snacks and water or soft drinks will be provided for free. Movies will be shown after the Saturday 5:30 PM mass.   Movie titles and dates will be published in the parish bulletin.

  • Ladies Appreciation Dinner

Our Council programs would not succeed without ongoing support and encouragement of the wives and significant others of our members. Many ladies also assist us in various programs throughout the year. An appreciation dinner is held annually at a fine dining restaurant. Member pays for the cost of his meal, but dinners for the ladies are paid for by our Council.

  • Trunk or Treat

The Knights of Columbus donate and serve hot dogs, and chips for this popular parish Halloween event for children. The Knights also volunteer with parking, event set-up and clean up.

  • Annual Family Christmas party

All members and their families are invited. There is no cost for event. The Knights donate a main dish. Santa Claus pays a visit to the children. Families are free to bring a side dish or desert.

  • Family Breakfast

As part of our service to the church and to foster a sense of community, the Knights also sponsor annual or semi-annual family breakfasts after all the Sunday morning masses. All parishioners are invited to this free event.

Community Programs

Knights are called to serve others.  Charity, the first guiding principle of our Order, compels us to action. It is the basis of all we do; at home with our families and in our communities.

  • “Measure Up”

St Brendan Knights of Columbus conduct annual “Measure Up” street collection in early May. One hundred percent of donations are used by local and state organizations to support programs and services for “People with Developmental Disabilities”. For the past several years our Council has elected to use funds collected to support Special Olympics Ohio.

  • Special Olympics Summer Games

The St Brendan Knights have volunteered for over 37 years at the games held annually in June on the Ohio State University campus. The Knights sponsor a board game that the athletes can enjoy in the athlete’s village between their event competitions.

  • Coats for Kids Program

This is one of our signature Council programs. New winter coats, hats and gloves are purchased for children in need. Coats are distributed annually to various local and state agencies such as Hilliard JOIN, Bishop Griffin Resource Center, and St Francis Center in Portsmouth, OH

  • Red Cross Blood Drives

You can help ensure that an ample supply of the lifesaving gift of blood will be available wherever and whenever the need arises, by participating in St Brendan Knights of Columbus sponsored Red Cross Blood Drives. These drives are generally held periodically. Dates are announced in the parish bulletin and Flocknotes.

  • Food Bank Support

Council Members volunteer as a group (generally quarterly) to work at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank pantry. In addition, many members volunteer their time individually at local Food Banks and Meals on Wheels and other charitable community programs serving the needy.

  • Veteran Support

A Veteran’s Appreciation Reception is held annually in November. A meal is prepared or furnished by the Knights. A program speaker or other activity is included. Our Council also supports our 4th degree Assembly in periodically collecting/donating personal care items for Vets at the VA hospital, as well as gifts for VA Christmas party.

  • Supporting our Church and School Communities

Supporting our pastor and parish is one of the cornerstones of our activity. Our Council continues to make monthly cash donations to the Parish “One Campaign” Building fund. Donations are also made to the school’s annual silent auction fundraiser.

The Knights of Columbus donated approximately 321 hours volunteering in various capacities at the Parish Festival in August 2021. In addition to continuing to serve in these capacities at the August 2022 festival, the Knights will also be volunteer manpower for the ticket booth.

Life Programs

The Knights of Columbus is dedicated to programs supporting the sanctity of life from conception to death.

  • 40 Days for Life

Members of the Knights conduct prayer vigils in front of abortion facilities during the annual 40 days for Life campaign held in April and October each year.

  • Respect for Life Fundraising Events

Our Council sponsors a table at annual fundraising events for Pregnancy Decision Health Center and the Greater Columbus Right to Life. These banquet/national pro-life speaker events are free for members to attend. A freewill donation at end of evening is encouraged.

  • Supporting Women’s Care Centers

Our Council supports local pro-life Women’s Care center programs such as raising funds for purchase of ultra sound machine, and conducting baby diaper and supply need drives. The Knights of Columbus has developed a new initiative called (ASAP) Aid and Support After Pregnancy to strengthen KofC assistance for pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes. The website links below explain the program in more detail.
