Venerating Eucharist Rally Youth on the Edge

Purpose:  To deepen our Junior High teen’s relationship with Christ through Eucharist centered activity and to build Catholic identity through community.

The V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra builds on “The EDGE” (the new 7th & 8th grade Ministry of Faith Formation program beginning in September) which “is a Catholic Middle School Ministry experience created for early adolescents in grades six, seven, and eight.  The EDGE is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents.”  It is silimar to what the LIFE TEEN experience is for high school students.  The V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra is a mini model of the EDGE and a mini LIFE TEEN designed to enhance Faith Formation as well as being a stepping stone to LIFE TEEN.  The V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra will build community with a Catholic idenity for adolescents on "the edge" of moving from a child-li spirituality toward an adult faith commitment to Jesus Christ and the Catholic Community. The V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra offers the  Adolescents "the edge" as they make this transition.

Components of the V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra:  It plugs into the Sunday LIFE TEEN liturgy, the V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra, like LIFE TEEN, centered in the Eucharist.  The V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra program meets two Sundays per month from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm with the adolescents attending the LIFE TEEN Mass at 5:30 pm.   The V.E.R.Y. EDGE Extra is composed of:
A)   Social Activities like Rollerchairball, Karaoke and Catholic IQ competitions for building community.
B)   Service to Holy Family soup kitchen and local nursing facilities as well as service projects.
C)     Spotlight is an educational components presented in an exciting format to enhance the Catechetical components
      of Faith Formation Confirmation classes and to build Catholic identity.
